The golden throat of contemporary incredibly strange music, the U.K.’s Herb Diamante is the 21st century prime crooner. Already known to some for his previous appearances in Seattle (including one at the Can-Can with Queen Shmooquan), those who haven’t seen him will delight in his psychedelic lounge karaoke act. His CD “May I Light Your Cigarette” (all originals except the cover of “Some Velvet Morning” was released on Sun City Girl’s Abduction label. His new album, “A Spoonful Of Yeast”, should be coming out on No-Fi soon. This one features collaborations with Climax Golden Twins, Vibracathedral Orchestra, Sunburned Hand Of The Man, Dialing In, At Jennie Richie, Diatric Puds, and mostly importantly Sun City Girls with Eyvand Kang and Jessika Kenney backing Herb on “Mr. Lonely.” I single this one as it is an absolutely gorgeous rendition highlighting the full range of Diamante’s voice. Somehow it didn’t end up getting used in the Harmony Korine movie of the same name. But you can check out the music video for it on YouTube.

Srivani Jade is a Hindustani classical singer. She specializes in the North Indian classical form of Khayal and other traditional and folk-inspired music like Thumri-Dadra, Tappa and Bhajans. Srivani has performed regularly on stage, radio and television in India from the age of five. Her first solo album of 16th century devotional music (Sant Tukaram’s Abhangs) released in 2007, and since then, she has released two very successful albums Bhoopali and Meera’s Love in the classical and light classical genres respectively. Since moving to the United States in 1996, she has performed for venues like Sangati Center, Seattle City Hall, Town Hall Seattle, Northwest Folklife, Utsav, Spokane Centerstage Theater, University of Washington and has been presented by KBCS 91.3FM and NPR/KUOW 94.9FM radio.In 2009, she was invited to perform at the 23rd Devnandan Ubhayaker Yuva Sangeet Utsav in Bangalore, India where she received much critical acclaim for her mature style, tunefulness and technical mastery.

Education/Journey
 
Srivani was introduced to music at the age of four by her father Bhavani Prasad Jade and uncle Raghu Tilwalli. Although she formally trained in Carnatic music during her childhood, she was exposed to a variety of music, classical and pop/light, Indian and Western. During her youth, she found herself gravitating towards Thumri, Ghazal and other light classical music from North India. While she continued to actively perform various kinds of music for the next decade or so, her interest in classical music, particularly Khayal and Thumri, slowly intensified. In 2002, she began her formal training in Khayal under Dr. Sharad Gadre of Seattle.

    He started playing with sound in his grandfather’s junkyard in the early 1970’s, began guitar in 1981, served in the US Army 1988-1991, became a luthier in 1994, performed guitar music, built instruments, co-creatively engaged audiences and completed a degree in Music Therapy in 2000.



    Since 2002, Knott has practiced as a music therapist at both Seattle Children’s Hospital and the Bailey-Boushay House. The Sweet Little Guitar Ditties have been developed over the past seven years within a music therapy practice with critically ill and injured adults and children. 



    These guitar miniatures are musical offerings intended to engage and then calm individuals who face medical interventions and related anxiety and pain.  Knott’s collaborators in the Messenger Girls Trio helped him to refine the Ditties in weekly improvised music sessions from 2001-2007.

    Music therapy is an allied health profession with a national independent certifying body.  Knott obtained his board certification in 2001 and completed his advanced training in Neurologic Music Therapy in 2006.
