Misanthropic Agenda

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

We have the complete in print catalog of Misanthropic Agenda in stock now.  Misanthropic Agenda is a label run by noise artist Gerritt.  Gerritt seems to be best known for playing with Sunn 0))) and also in Stephen O’Malley’s project Ginnungagap.  So right off the bat, I can tell you about the lovely Ginnungagap LP “Return To Nothing/Nothing To Return - Live At The Flux Factory, Queens 10th March 2004“.  Previously released on CD and long out of print, this vinyl version features an alternate mix and comes packaged in a lovely screen printed jacket printed by Andy of Broken Press.  Pressed on yellow vinyl and limited to 500 copies, the music is doomy and for Gerritt’s remix on side B, quite droney.  Gerritt is also half of the black noise project Deathroes, the other half being SIXES.  Their LP “Final Expense” is also limited to 500 copies, but comes in a printed jacket and is co-released with No Fun Productions.  But Gerritt is also an active solo artist, as I knew from his 3″ CDR released by P-tapes a few years back.  On his own label, Gerritt has released the “Space Level Blaze” CD and the “Flash Vault” 7″ which is a split with Manpack Variant.  Both display a lot of quick cut actions with noise electronics.  This style continues on “The Disappearing Act EP” which Gerritt recorded in collaboration with John Wiese although the last track on this has a lot of silence.  John Wiese seems to be something of a regular on Misanthropic Agenda in many combinations.  One is LHD the powerful noise duo with Phil of The Cherry Point who are represented on this label by the “Limbs of the Fawn” CD.  Another is the group Sissy Spaceck with Corydon Ronnau and sometimes Danny McClain.  They are the trio for the “Remote Whale Control” CD which sees them freaking out on guitar, drums and electronics.  Quite a contrast is “Glass” on which Sissy Spaceck are reduced to the duo of Wiese and Ronnau.  On this disc, the sounds are all highly amplified breaking glass reminding me of the glory days of The Haters.  John Wiese also has a CD in collaboration with Merzbow on this label entitled “Multiplication” on which the two let loose the intense noise they are both best known for.  The master of Japanese noise also has a solo release called “Frog +“.  Merzbow’s “Frog” LP was one of the earliest releases on Misanthropic Agenda and is long out of print, but the music remains available on this expanded reissue which added another CD of unreleased bonus material.   And if that weren’t enough there is also a double CD called “Merzbow “Frog” Remixed and Revisited” which features xclusive tracks from Boris, Fennesz, Gerritt, Hecker, House Of Low Culture, Hrvatski, John Wiese, Pita, Sunn 0))), Terror Organ, Ulver, When, Never Presence Forever, Russell Haswell, and Merzbow himself.  The one last release we have from this label is by the up and coming Jason Crumer who is constantly impressing with his recent releases. His fourth and latest full length release is the “Walk With Me” CD which shows a real talent for composing noise.  His stuff has been real hot lately, and this one is a good one to check out to hear why.  Plus all these CDs from Misanthopic Agenda are priced affordably.  And if you come down soon you can picked up some nice color postcard that Gerritt has sent for past live shows he  has put on in Oakland.
