Penetration Camp, Physical Demon, Broken Penis Orchestra

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Two brand new releases from local label Debacle Records came in today.  First up is “Fuck Rockin’In American Airspace” by Broken Penis Orchestra - a 10th anniversary release of cut up pop culture samples and absurdity.  This one is a CDR with a bonus DVD-R of BPO live at Wooden Octopus Skull 2005.  Packaged in a full color cover with micro detail photocollage artwork, this one is limited to 100 numbered copies, but yet still sells for only $5.00!  $5.00 can also get you the new double 3″ CDR with one disc each by Penetration Camp and Physical Demon packaged in a nifty full color folder sleeve.  This pairing has some collage elements as well, but mixes them with good old noise, sheet metal and synths.  We’ve still got a bit of the Debacle back catalog in stock as well such the recent discs by Hemingway and Brent Landon, plus slightly older titles like …Wind Swept Planes… (who play in store on Thursday night).

Yesterday and this morning I’ve been continuing to enjoy the Blue Sabbath Black/Penetration Camp split 12″ Bleak Village::Mob Rules. We have a few copies left at a nice price for you thrifty shoppers. No sooner had I finished posting the blog that I came across a new interview with BSBC. You can check it out here: http://hammersmashedjazz.blogspot.com/In addition to a host of new releases from these bog death demons I realized we still had a few Gnarled Forest releases in stock here at the store. Since all their releases tend to sell out or become quickly hard to find we’re lucky to have a few in stock.Currently in addition to their split with Penetration Camp we still have copies of GF21 BSBC/Terrortank, GF23 Dried Up Corpse and my personal fave of these three GF24 which is a split between Dried Up Corpse and the broken noise of SLATES. All tapes are C10 housed in oversize bags with evocative B+W cardstock covers.

This is Jim Evans of Sparkle Girl a your guest blogger today. Last week after posting the updates about the not one but two intriguing in store performances we have this month at Dissonant Plane. Mr Chad Allen of …Wind…Swept…Planes stopped in and didn’t get upset at my description but we narrowed it down somewhat to “elctroacoustic desolation” he also promised a new set that would be more of a change to those sounds heard on his releases here at the store. …Wind…Swept…Planes will be appearing at Dissonant Plane On Thursday, May 21 at 7pm.If you feel like checking out the artist before the in store we still have two different WSP cassettes (final copies I believe). We also have cassettes of Chad’s metal band Hellgramitt and his avant free project with Garrison, Forrest Friends. No sooner had Chad left the store than I had the great pleasure of meeting Jonathan Way. Jonathan is going to be performing with Simon Wickham-Smith here at Dissonant Plane for an in store performance on Thursday, May 28th. One week after WSP. Nothing like to talking to the performer themselves. Jonathan works with field recordings in multiple ways. Sounds good to us and we look forward to his collaboration with Simon Wickham-Smith. It should be a mighty interesting in store and who knows when you might see this duo collaborate again.Review for the morning: Blue Sabbath Black Cheer/Penetration Camp: Bleak Village::Mob Rules (Drug Front Productions, 12″ Split LP. 12″ Split LP by Blue Sabbath Black Cheer and Penetration Camp. This has already become one of my favorite releases of the year by far. BSBC start off the fun with two tracks on side one ‘Paranoid’ and ‘Elektrisches Begrabnis’. Playable at 33rpm these are two awesome tracks from these fine purveyors of PACNW bog-death-doom. Paranoid made me feel like a man on the run from the leper haus as lightning makes your hair stand on end then you slip in the filthy muddy trench as the exiled living dead grab at your thin sick bones. Great shrieking atmospheres of bleak wet horror noise. The second track Elektrische Begrabnis starts with a menacing bass throb and fried electronics when the sick vocals start to creep up on you. A shattering tortuous maelstrom kicks in and helps swath the menacing rhythm. You can almost hear the scythes slit the throats. Side B is Penetration Camp with Mob Rules. At 45rpm their track lives up to it’s title. Recently reading about the Black Plaugue and this track could be a soundtrack.Imagine being inside a monastery where the twisted brothers have turned to the devil for salvation from the sickened masses. Just as soon as PC had elicited this vision in my mind there is a crash and then you realize the mob now rules inside the gates. This is probably my favorite PC recording so far with all the power and atmosphere of their live sets. Two excellent bands on one LP housed in a beautiful screened sleeve, hand applied art print front and two cardstock insets one from each artist. Really wonderful split from folks at Drug Front Productions.
